বাঙালি মুসলমান সমাজের নানা স্তরের মানুষজনকে লেখা রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের একগুচ্ছ চিঠিপত্র সংকলিত হয়েছে, যেগুলি কবি ১৯১৩ থেকে ১৯৪১ সালের মধ্যে লিখেছিলেন, যার অধিকাংশই ছিল পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বাইরে। একটি বিশেষ দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে পত্রগুলি সংকলিত হল যা থেকে বিভাগ-পূর্ব বাংলার মুসলমান জনসমাজ, হিন্দু মুসলমান সম্পর্কের রবীন্দ্রমানস বোঝা যাবে। সেইসঙ্গে বিস্মৃতপ্রায় সেইসব মুসলিম মনীষার সন্ধান মিলবে যাঁদের পরিচয় বর্তমান প্রজন্মের বাঙালি সমাজের অজানা।
বিভিন্ন দুষ্প্রাপ্য পত্রপত্রিকা এবং পত্রপ্রাপকদের বইপত্রের নানা সংস্করণ ঘেঁটে চিঠিগুলি উদ্ধার করেছেন কবি ও গবেষক ড. মুহম্মদ মতিউল্লাহ্।
চিঠিগুলি বিন্যস্ত হয়েছে পত্রপ্রাপকদের বয়সের ক্রমানুসারে। চিঠিগুলির প্রথম প্রকাশ, সংশ্লিষ্ট নানা তথ্যের বিন্যাস এবং যুক্ত হয়েছে পত্রপ্রাপকদের জীবনপঞ্জি যা থেকে বাঙালি মুসলিম মনীষার একটি সম্পন্ন পরিচয় পাওয়া যাবে— এ-বাংলার অনুসন্ধিৎসু পাঠকের কাছে অতীত ইতিহাস। পাঠকের নিরন্তর তাগিদে প্রকাশিত হল আমূল পরিবর্ধিত এই নতুন সংস্করণ।
