যৌনতা যে-কোনো জীবের একটা স্বাভাবিক প্রবৃত্তি। সেই প্রবৃত্তি যখন ব্যাভিচারে দাঁড়ায় তখন নিশ্চয়ই তার পিছনে কোনো প্ররোচনা থাকে। কী সেই প্ররোচনা? সে কি আমাদের শরীরের মধ্যেই থাকে, নাকি শরীরের বাইরে, আমাদের প্রতিবেশে? প্ররোচনা যদি শরীরের মধ্যেই থাকে তাহলে বলতে হয়, আমাদের জৈবিকতাই (‘বায়োলজি’) যত নষ্টের মূল। কিন্তু নিজেদের জৈবিকতা তো আমরা পালটে দিতে পারি না। তাহলে কি ব্যাভিচারই মেনে নিতে হবে? তখন নিজেদের বড়ো অসহায় লাগে। আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষরাও অমন অসহায় ছিলেন; কিন্তু আমরা আধুনিক মানুষ, তাই গর্বিত; সেই গর্বের সঙ্গে এই অসহায়তা মানানসই না। আমরা জীবজগতের অন্যান্য প্রজাতির সঙ্গে নিজেদের তুলনা করি; তাতেও তেমন ভরসা জাগে না। তাহলে কী করা?
