বাংলা সাহিত্যের বলিষ্ঠ অথচ স্বল্প আলোচিত কথাকার জ্যোতির্ময়ী দেবী (১৮৯৪-১৯৮৮)। রাজস্থানে বসবাসকারী বাঙালি পরিবারে তাঁর জন্ম ও বেড়ে ওঠা। প্রথাগত শিক্ষালাভের সুযোগ না পেলেও বই পড়ার প্রবল আগ্রহ ও ব্যক্তিগত জীবন অভিজ্ঞতা তাঁকে সমাজমনস্ক লেখক হিসেবে গড়ে তোলে। সমাজ ও সাহিত্য সমান্তরাল ধারায় বয়ে চলে। তাই সাহিত্য পাঠ করতে গিয়ে সমসাময়িক সমাজকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যায় অনায়াসে। জ্যোতির্ময়ী দেবীর কথাসাহিত্যের সমাজ গণ্ডিবদ্ধ প্রাদেশিক সমাজ নয়, তার ব্যাপ্তি সর্বভারতীয়। লেখক তাঁর যুক্তিনিষ্ঠ উদার মানবিক দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি নিয়ে কখনো সমাজের বৈষম্য অসংগতি বিষয়ে প্রশ্ন তুলেছেন, বহুমুখী সমস্যার উৎস সন্ধানের চেষ্টা করেছেন; কখনো দিয়েছেন সুনির্দিষ্ট পথনির্দেশ, যেন এক মগ্ন সমাজবিজ্ঞানী। বর্তমান গ্রন্থে গ্রন্থকার জ্যোতির্ময়ী দেবীর কথাসাহিত্য অবলম্বনে সমাজ ও সাহিত্যের নিগূঢ় যোগসূত্রটি সুনিপুণভাবে বিশ্লেষণে সচেষ্ট হয়েছেন, সমাজসচেতন লেখকের বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতালব্ধ মণিমুক্তোগুলি তুলে এনেছেন ঝুড়ি ভরে। নিঃসন্দেহে মননশীল পাঠকের সমাজভাবনার পরিসরকে প্রসারিত করবে এই গ্রন্থ।
