সরাসরি, একেবারে তীক্ষ্ণ ফলার রচনারীতি না কি গল্পের বাস্তবকে পরাবাস্তবের চিকের আড়ালে রেখে এক কুহকী আখ্যানের অবতারণা— কোন পথে হাঁটলে পাঠকের মনে প্রবেশ ত্বরান্বিত হবে? এই সংকলনের দশটি গল্প পড়তে পড়তে মনে হতে পারে লেখক ভুগেছেন এমন কোনো এক অনিশ্চয়তায়! কিন্তু কিছুদূর এগোলেই বোঝা যায়, এই লেখনরীতির অবতারণা একেবারেই ইচ্ছাকৃত। আসলে বাস্তবের গল্পকে, গল্পের বাস্তবে প্রতিস্থাপন করতে গেলে প্রয়োজন পড়ে এমন এক কথক কিংবা এমন কোনো ভাষার, পাঠকের মনে যা কাটতে পারে জন্মদাগের মতন একটি চিরস্থায়ী দাগ। সেই জন্য সাহিত্য শিল্পে অশরীরী কথক, কিংবা অতিবাস্তব ভাষা— চিরকালই এই দুইয়ের কদর সর্বাগ্রে। এই সংকলনেও তাই, যে-দুটো গল্পে একাটি বালিকা এবং এক যুবক ধর্ষণের শিকার হয়, সেই দুই কাহিনি বাদে বাকি আটটি আখ্যানে পাঠক বিচরণ করবেন আপাত অবাস্তব এক পরিবেশে। কিন্তু শুনতে পাবেন ঘোর বাস্তবেরই অনুরণন।
